To Mom, With Love

To my adorable mother: I hope I have always appreciated you as I should. You taught me life's fundamentals; you showed me how to be a woman and a mother. You taught me the alphabet and kissed my skinned knees. You taught me it's not okay to pee on the front steps of the house. You navigated me through challenging relationships with boys. You reminded me how lucky I am to have sisters. You demonstrated how to be a wife and mother with abandon but without losing yourself. When things looked grim, you came to my rescue. When I had a child of my own, you came to my rescue again. :) (what? He was scary.) Now when I see you, I get to see the best parts of you as a mother, distilled into my kids' GiGi. Growing up, I had to endure all my friends' mothers telling me how my mom was the best. A part of me has always known they were right, and never more than right now. Thank you, Mom, for loving and leading by example. Happy Mother's Day!!!

When you started walking on your own without fear or reservation at 10 months old. When your preverbal sense of humor was far better than some of the adults we know. When you could swim across the pool without a breath and would push away the grownups (mostly Mommy) who came along to "save" you. When you got a finally got a bike and then just pedaled away without instruction. When you climbed and leaped onto and off of tall things. When you strolled right out of the grocery store into the parking lot without looking back. When you punched your big brother. When you stood with a few of your dance friends onstage and flawlessly did your routine with a thou...
